Don't know if it's relevant, but I agree. I don't think the internet is a good excuse to butcher the English language. Sure simple spelling errors and such in IM's and crap are cool. Especially if you are trying to type fast. But net speak, and that kind of attitude should DIE!!!

Yay, support! =] I'm just glad this person isn't in our fandom... (I am the lizard queen of typos. I fail that way.)

I think everyone's life would be easier if the world used proper grammar on the internet, personally. :|

I second that, quite simply put. :)

Mistakes happen, yes. I make typos all the time, but I know how to spell the word. Personally, I can't do that whole "u r 2 kool!!1" thing all the time because it hurts my brain to do that. It's like learning a new language. And speaking of language, not everyone speaks English, so there's going to be some grammar problems in there, too, so using your BEST grammar for those who DO know the language well helps everyone else out. So I'd say 'yes' if it's in situations like, oh, A STORY or something important, but some people just don't feel like typing out the whole word sometimes, especially in conversations through IMs and whatnot.

There are some chatspeaks that I don't mind, particularly the acronyms such as omg and brb. I think they're cute.

Although people say that chatspeak saves time for them, I find that it actually takes longer for me to type out "u" instead of "you" because it's unnatural.

What really irritates me is people who use chatspeak off the computer in non sarcastic ways.

I see girls writing notes to each other, and they literately look like this:

"Hey gurl,

omg, Jenny iz so mean. I wuz just sitting during lunch and b4 I knew it, she's starts cussing out sum gurl cuz she accidentally spilled sum milk on da table. u better b careful around her. I'm glad ur a nice person."

...seriously. It makes me cry.

Me, I type this way all the time. I'm always disappointed when someone who uses proper grammar and conventions in, say, journal entries, ends up completely forgoing any sense of the English language in IMs. I use acronyms a lot -- and emoticons -- but my grammar and conventions are always half-past perfect. ^.~ And I'm modest.

I'm a grammar Nazi, that's all. The internet is no excuse to make yourself look like a moron.

Yeah, word to that last part. xD It really gets me when people say they use chatspeak to "save time" and then type moron versions of words with the same amount of letters (or more) in them...

cool -> kewl
was -> wuz

Why would you make yourself look like such an idiot when it doesn't even benefit you AT ALL? x.x
