Does Not Play Well With Others. Obviously.

Dear fantwats:

So you have more fandoms than just Kingdom Hearts. That's quite understandable. I don't know a single person who follows Kingdom Hearts and nothing else. Multiple fandoms broaden your horizons and make you look differently at things. Really, they're a good thing.

My problem is when you try to mix them.

No, wait. That's not entirely accurate.

My problem is when you mix them badly.

Think about it: Kingdom Hearts is based not on a universe, but a multiverse. By that logic, you could have any one of your fandoms be its own individual "world" and write a crossover without screwing canon eight ways to Sunday with a mace.

Just because you're writing a crossover with Kingdom Hearts does not mean *everybody* needs to have a Keyblade. Think about this one too, if your little brains aren't already filled to capacity with my first point: the Keyblade is a unique weapon. There are only, what, four of them in the entire multiverse? Why do you think Sora is in such high demand? Giving any character from your other fandom a Keyblade cheapens the entire experience. (You want good - erm, bad examples, look here and here.) The characters of your other fandom can stay perfectly in character (and with their own weapons) and still pull off a good crossover. In fact, keeping the characters IC and writing their reactions in a non-crackified way is the whole fun of a crossover, is it not?

Don't answer that.

And don't let me catch you screwing around with these horrible types of crossovers either.

Ever vigilant,

Yamiko

(And that Chrno Crusade fic I linked up there? Yeah, I claim that. Pending spork right there.)

keyblade, crossovers
