The Ethiopian wolf is the only one that could potentially fit the situation, and that wolf doesn't fit Saix. It's a rusty-furred, small animal that looks less like the grey wolf that most identify Saix with and more as a cross between a coyote and a dingo that's been going through tough times.

Saix conjurs up, in my mind at least, a more reptilian creature.
