"We have to go deeper!"
Okay, Inception... I was not prepared. I knew the thing was a bit of a mind bender, but I don't think I was truly prepared for how deep the rabbit hole was going to go on this one. I found myself feeling unsure about the entire experience, and it's probably going to take me a few days to decide whether I truly liked it or not.
The construction of the movie is brilliant. The cast is a very interesting mix of actors, the writing was excellent, the music was a compositional masterpiece, and the layering of the story was... overwhelming.
Why wouldn't I immediately like it on those merits, you ask? I can't quite put my finger on it. I think it kind of broke my expectations, which I shouldn't have had to begin with, and pulled me down into the depths of the realities it weaved. I feel I understood the movie as a whole. I knew what was going on at all times, and what layer we were sitting in. The only downside I can settle on right now was the ambiguous ending. I think I just need to time to wrap my head around all the details.
Also, I liked Saito. I hope that everything worked out for him in the end and it wasn't all just a mental ruse.
