I have evolved

Back in the day, I used to think my sort of people were what I like to call Deep Nerds. These were guys who were very deep into the nerd lifestyles, could never get a woman, and sometimes washed irregularly. I felt at some point that these were the only kinds of people with whom I could communicate, people who understood me.

It's been over 13 years since I departed from that outlook on life. Over the years I evolved from Deep Nerd, to a regular Nerd, and up into the realm of simple Geekdom. The term "geek" sometimes has a bad connotation and is usually coupled with that of the "nerd". Sadly, people don't seem to realize that the species of geek has also evolved over the years.

The tag of geek used to be relegated to those who spread their interests out over a variety of nerdy pastimes... anything from video games, to table top RPGs, to sci-fi, fantasy, and beyond. In modern times, however, just about anyone can be a geek. It seems the view of a geek has changed to be someone who is very interested or devoted to a specific hobby or thing. There are your sports geeks, car geeks, political geeks, blog geeks, music geeks, movie geeks, and so on. Just about any subject that someone focuses a lot of time on can be considered a geekdom.

Today, I am a varied geek with a life, a wife, and a full time job. I still like to dabble in the nerd culture sometimes because, frankly, sometimes you just can't the information you want from general sources. I see nerds from time to time, and even more rarely a Deep Nerd, and find myself thinking that I'm glad I didn't actually become part of that culture. Let's face it, since I started having interactions with women, well, I like them a lot, especially the one I married.

Also, and this should go without saying, I like sex. How many Deep Nerds do you know are getting laid right now?
