Back in the computer lab

We (Oli, Cathy, and I) went out last night just as the bars were closing, which seems to be 11:30-12ish, drank a quick pint and searched for places that were still opened in this city (which isn't very much in comparison to American cities). We ended up at a place called Sin. It had a fare share of Eurotrash dancing, expensive drinks, and chatty people. €8.10 for a jack and coke (!), but that could just be a huge inflated price to gouge the tourists. We talked to a bunch of people, and it's absolutely true that the Irish talk and talk. Still, it's strange listening to a 40?50? year old, very James Bond-y character talk about how he never smiles because of his teeth, or just not picking up on all the sarcasm, which makes everything seem like it's thinly veiled with bullshit.

The politics liason kept reiterating at the academic meeting about how great the local transportation is, which it is, but only before 11pm. Otherwise, it shuts down for the night. You think of the subways in New York, the T in Boston, and how they run pretty late into the night, and it makes me weep. Cabs seem to be the way to go until we can figure out the nightlink bus (drunk bus).
