As promised

I believed I said I was going to post pictures from the Japanese Street Festival a couple weekends ago.  It drew a very interesting crowd.  When I was waiting in line for some food there was an elderly couple.  The little old lady struck up conversation, mostly about the food that was being served.  "Now, what is this... this... L-O-M-E-I-N?"  "So, it's kind of like asian spaghetti?"  And she had a similar question about the pad thai.  Pad thai I can understand, but I don't know that I've ever met anyone who hasn't had lo mein.  So, we had the elderly, and your typical tourist families, and then there were the the anime fans.  There was a really special section of the festival called "J-POP land."  They had a little fashion show consisting of people from the audience.  There was a whole lot of gothic lolita action, a little final fantasy, a dash of Naruto, and then the other random people who crawl out of the woodwork for this sort of thing.  I'm not sure how many street festivals DC has but I think they need to learn a little bit about crowd flow.  In the shopping area, you pretty much had to wait in line to look at the wares.  There were some amusing shirts featuring Tofu Robot.  Soy Power!

Fun little bonsai started growing in the 1970s!

It wouldn't be a Japanese Festival without some pretty paper cranes!

This table makes me think of Katamari.

So cute!  I have no idea what they are but they're colorful and amusing.  Pin cushions perhaps?

And then there were these awesome sugar candies made right there at the festival
