Roleplaying night

Well, I guess I'd better get this post out before I get too far behind again and get forced to post another ramble (I think I can keep this one to only two topics!!!). We did play on Monday, but we got home a little late, and I've been busy since then.

As you might recall from last time, Eva got taken down in a fight with the bad guys...

Well, they made their way back to the hotel with Achmed (and the unconscious Eva) in tow without any real problems. They then got in touch with their British contact on the base and explained some of the situation (not revealing yet that there were traitors on the base who were going to be smuggling in explosives). Their contact agreed to send four men as backup, since the party had previously arranged for the one mercenary gang to do a hit on their hotel room (so that they could grab some of them and interrogate them for more details).

Of course, by now the group had already obtained plenty of information about the German operation through interrogating Achmed (the lamp dealer who they promised safe passage out of the country). So, instead of grabbing the mercenaries, they decided just to follow them back after the hit and see if they could pick up anything useful.

After some amount of planning, they finally set up to cover the entrances to the hotel, then waited into the night...

Eva (coving the lobby) spotted Len Springett coming in for a drink, and talked some to him. He of course was his usual charming self, but the encounter seemed a harmless coincidence. Finally in the wee hours of the morning, Brooky spotted someone watching from on top of a nearby building and went after him. By the time Brooky got to the roof, the person was gone, but Brooky kept watch from the roof on the front door of the building, just in case the guy came out.

Sure enough, a few minutes later the guy showed up. Brooky casually estimated the height of the three story building, and then (trusting his new found toughness) jumped off. He landed behind the guy, relatively unhurt, and took him captive at gunpoint (a relatively easy task, as the guy was pretty much caught off guard by the expected occurrence of a man jumping off a three story building apparently unharmed).

We ended the session there. It was unfortunate that all their planning was more or less for naught (since the attack never materialized), but at least they captured someone out of the deal. Next time we'll find out if it's actually a member of the mercenary gang.

I've also been playing a little bit of Quake 4. It's a rather interesting game. The language and violence is definitely up there a bit (as witnessed by the MA rating and 18 sticker on the front). Optiker, I know you enjoyed playing some of Quake 2, but unfortunately I think that this game won't be to your taste. Still, they have a pretty good sense of pacing. At times they very strongly capture the feel of being on a sci-fi battlefield. It's definitely a game I have to play in limited doses so that I don't get adrenaline fatigue. To my mind it's not as interesting as Half-Life 2, but I'm definitely enjoying it.

That's probably enough for now. I'll catch you all later.
