Angel walked the darkened Seattle streets, trying to ignore the dull ache in his chest. He didn't know why he had come here; probably the same reason why he kept visiting Sunnydale, even though he knew Buffy had moved on from him. He wasn't ready to let Cordy go, even though she had clearly moved on from him. His chest tightened some more, and he knew that this is what heartbreak had to feel like.
He stopped underneath an unlit street lamp, slipping deeper into the shadows. In the lit window that shone like a beacon in the darkened night, he could make out the silhouettes of two people, a man and a woman. He watched as they moved around the room, going about their daily routine. The woman glanced outside for a brief second, and Angel stepped backwards into the darkness, not wanting Cordy to see him. She stood there for a brief moment before turning back to shout at Alec. Angel watched her, his mind involuntarily going back to when he had last seen her...
"I'm leaving, Angel." Cordy's words had been the last thing he expected. Looking up, he saw her standing before his desk, a packed bag over her shoulder. She had recently woken up from the coma Jasmine had sent her into, but had been keeping to herself since then, almost as if she was avoiding them.
"But, Cordy..." he began before she interrupted it.
"Don't, Angel," she said, and he could hear her voice breaking slightly. "Don't be all heroic and heartbreaking and make me stay. LA has too many bad memories, and I need to start over. And besides, the LA scene was getting old. I need to go make a splash elsewhere before making my triumphant return." She smiled, and it was only a testament to how well he knew her that he could tell how forced it was. "I'll see you around." She walked over to him and gave him a hug. "Take care of yourself."
Angel watched her walk out the door, a heavy feeling in his chest. "Good-bye, Cordy," he whispered.
"Wow, is stalking in now?" a voice commented from behind him. Turning around, he saw a young woman leaning up against the wall. She walked over to him, all feline grace and a wary look in her eyes. "Must've missed the memo."
"Wait, no, I wasn't..." Angel began to protest before the woman snorted in amusement.
"Please. I wasn't born yesterday." She glanced up at the window before looking back down at him. "So, you want to talk about it, or are you just going to stand here brooding?"
"Not really much for talking," Angel answered, causing the woman to roll her eyes.
"Suit yourself. Just make sure you don't get caught," she cautioned. "Alec's been jumpy ever since Cordy moved in, and if he think's your the bad guy, he might take your sorry ass before you know what hit you. Later." She disappeared back into the shadows, leaving Angel standing alone in the street, watching the woman he had let slip through his fingers before finally sipping away to make his way back to LA by himself.
