2008 Wrap-up

Ok...

Well as you can already tell I am still alive just have been very busy this year, especially as of late, with life. It would only seem appropriate that I finally update on New Year's Eve so that I can reflect on this past year as well as let anyone who cares to read this an update to my life.

One always starts in the beginning and that is where I shall begin of course as this time last year I was up in Erie, in the company of very good friends whom I cherish. Happy new year to you and your family Loesel Family.

From that point on, which would be the rest of that school year, really has been as much a blur, but looking back it was more of a preparation for me for the events that would occur over the summer. With the stress taking its toll on me from working with the sport assignment I had at that time events would occur that at the time I was not aware of that would take me away from that sport and put me with a different one which I will actually be looking forward to working with this upcoming semester. Still, it had to come with a co-worker paying a price, but then that co-worker had it coming with the poor performance the had. It would not be until months after that time did I find out how poor a performance that was, as in fact I would be cleaning up much of that mess.

So with the summer upon us an old friend would come back into my life again and as life would have it we became closer then friends over the summer. Life would also dictate the lives of not only my two co-workers, but my supervisor as well, not in a completely bad way either. Each of my co-workers had a fork in the road of their lives and so the path they took would take them away from here and my supervisor would get promoted. This left me once again in a tight spot as I took over many responsibilities and keep things together until the positions were filled. In the mean time I learned a great deal of administrative skills including inventory, budgeting, and insurance management. Mind you not a lot, but enough to keep things going at that point in time I would later learn more and become more experienced as time went on. And so the summer came and went as did both the crisis I had at work trying to keep things together and my relationship with my friend. Although at least we parted on good terms and are good friends still.

School would start up again and so would the fall sports it has been a... ride to say the least this year with my team and many an injury both severe and mild, unique and common, although more unique then common. It has been a trying season trying to keep people healthy and it is high injury seasons like this one that make you question if you know what your doing, competent in the knowledge and skills taught to you. Still, one must preserver and I have learned much from this season and hope to take the life lessons I have learned and apply them well in the future...

I know what my co-worker now meant when they said its tough to leave and how much they loved it here. This past semester alone I have been much more involved with the campus and work in general so much that it will be difficult for me to leave when that decision must be made. With everything that has been happening with the near complete turn around in staff I have been trying to pursue a promotion if not a significant pay raise. If I do not get either at the end of this academic year then I will stay for another year and then go my separate way from this place. It is in part selfish, but to not be recognized or rewarded for the service and loyalty that one gives then it is time to move on to greener pastures. It is a shame too since I have found a new group of people that I enjoy hanging out with being more involved with the school returning to martial arts and learning new things as well as theorizing, testing, and applying new moves and techniques. Not only that but teaching those moves as well as the philosophies behind martial arts... the internal aspects as it were.

So as this year comes to a close I look at it as a year of great change. Which is amusing to me as the previous years were also a time of great change for me. Well time is constantly moving forward and life is constantly changing and as a great mentor of mine once said, "Get use to change, or get left behind."
