Well, I just finished Season 1 of Battlestar Galactica. I think I'm addicted.
I really didn't think I'd enjoy a sci-fi show since that was probably my least favourite part of Firefly ... well, that and the horses. I also didn't think I'd enjoy a show about people in the military, since I usually hate war movies.
But I came out of this season really liking the characters that were created in the show. Most of all, I really appreciated that the female characters are actually treated like real people. Although I still have some issues with the portrayal of women (especially the captain's treatment of Kara and Lee), it doesn't come close to the mutilation and death that awaits all women characters on a show like Prison Break. Ugh. But that's another story. I also love the fact that there's an Asian woman in the lead. Her background isn't addressed at all on the show. However, I find this much less offensive than a a show like Firefly that appropriates "Chinese" culture without any representation of Chinese in the cast. And, of course, Starbuck. Who couldn't like Starbuck?
