The writing is just exquisite. Like, I just loved the rhythm of this sentence: "He's clumsy for a moment as he lowers himself onto the empty side of the bed, still not used to the feel of his new leg, and then he has her wrapped up in his arms, holding her tightly as she struggles to get herself under control." It's like--I want to read this aloud and hear the rhythms of it. I've been trying to work on the flow of my own sentences. Your prose is inspiring!
And this: "She's always been beautiful to him-that voice, her face, the aura of strength and spirit that's never gone away entirely, and yes, even her body-but it feels almost like a violation to see her like this." And I love the little detail of her braids being undone, it's just such an intimate moment, and the gathering menace is foreshadowed so well. It completely breaks my heart when he says "It's over. We never have to go back."
What a lovely gift <3 Thank you a thousand times. I don't care at all about the prompt; this is just perfect.
