Now that I've talked about football, now it's time to talk about life

This weekend was aaaaaaamazing. Please let me tell you why.

It started out with me waking up late and chilling around the house all day reading, watching movies, and playing videogames. Such a good time. Then around 3:30 I got ready for our oh-so-excellent brotherhood retreat, although we didn't leave until about 5. So Alex Silverman, Charlie Sebel, Kyle Thomas, and I piled into Alex's car and made our way up to Pigeon Mountain. After stopping in May-retta for gas and to get me some warmer clothes (lows were in the low 40s), we drove up until we got to LaFayette and ate at a little Mexican joint. Starting a weekend-long camping trip with Mexican is a bad idea, but ya know.

We finally get up there around 9, and we set up tents and relax for awhile. Then a whole shitload of us went exploring, and four of us, Zack Trinite, Brendan Gunning, Mike Young, and I, broke off from the rest of the crowd and ventured off the beaten path. We saw a bunch of neat things like an overgrown area with many dead trees that had a beautiful, eerie feeling, a clearing that allowed us to see everything, and a Michael Kraus and co. coming back from the caves (which will play a pivotal role in my story later). The culmination of this little trek was our foray to Rape Gap, 2.6 miles away from the campsite (which was good exercise, by the way). When we got there, we laid in this gravel parking lot area and gazed up at the stars, which were definitely in abundance. It was so clear we could actually see the line of the Milky Way, something I've always dreamed about seeing but have never actually seen until Friday night. It was one of the most memorable moments of my life. We laid there just gazing upwards and talking about whatever came to mind, mainly just about how insignificant we are, yet we make do with what we have. Very existentialist, I'd say. Then we hiked back and stood around the campfire talking until wee hours of the morning.

Saturday we woke up early, ate breakfast, then went right on to the cliffs for some climbing. We were split into two groups; those who can climb and those who can't. Having had some experience, I went to the harder set of walls along with about 15 other guys. It was a lot of great fun. I conquered my fear of heights and showed off a bit, surprising everybody who thought nothing of my physical ability, yet I was one of three people to climb all four walls. We stayed until about 4:30, then we went back to the campsite and listened to the GT @ VT game on Justin Bearden's car radio. Good times, good times. After the game we had our steak & hotdog dinner, followed by pass the gavel farther up the mountain in a clearing. As usual, pass the gavel lasted for hours and was accompanied by cigars galore. I smoked a delicious CAO Italia my parents got for me from Vegas. So we talked for awhile, then went back to the campsite. I crashed early (early being 1) because I was dead from climbing.

The next morning we woke up at 8ish, packed up, and left. However, seven of us (Klar Fausnight, Michael Lindsey, Allan Suen, Graeham Bruce, Stephen Munna, Greg Munna, and myself) were not content to just head home. No, being the adventurous ones we are, we decided to go caving in, well, a cave at the bottom of the mountain. We were there from about noon until four. At the farthest point we were probably a mile in (although it took two hours to crawl/walk/shimmy that mile). It was capped with a waterfall at the farthest point. A few of us climbed to the top while others stayed at the bottom, and we sat, ate, and talked. Then we climbed out, which went faster, but it was a hell of a lot rougher because it's easier to lower yourself down than hoist yourself up. I was quite disgruntled at this one part, too. With less than 10 feet to go (I could see the trees outside), I got my only injury aside from scratches. Hoisting myself up onto a ledge, I forgot that there was a block behind me, and I slammed my lower back against it. It was quite painful (and still is). Damn you, Murphy, damn you. But we made it out, albeit ridiculously muddy (see Facebook for evidence), and only minorly scratched/bruised. However, my muscles ached a lot, and still ache. Heh, the worst part is I use those same muscles to get into bed every night. It's not very pretty.

So we drove home afterwards, and on the way we saw a caravan of a traveling carnival. Everybody in the car (that was awake, anyway), got really excited for me. If you don't know why, just know that one of my many nicknames is Carnie. Whence upon we returned, I took a long, scalding hot shower to try to relieve some of the tension in my muscles. Then I had a beer. Then Tiffany dropped by for a bit, then I hung out for awhile, then I went to bed.

Overall it was a freakin' incredible weekend. I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
