It's Game Time

So today I make my pitch to the director of the camp I've worked at for the past 3 years. I'm so nervous that it won't be what he wants.

For those of you who don't know what this is about let me catch you up. I've worked at A.C.T. (Adults and Children in Trust) as a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor for last three years, and I've been making pretty good money. However, because of that, I don't really have a whole lot of theatre experience outside of stuff I've done from New Paltz. So I told the director of my camp that I wanted to come back but most likely would not be able to, only so I can get some kind of theatre credit on my resume that showed I didn't just spend every summer teaching kids how to swim instead of learning or practicing my craft. At Kelly's suggestion, I brought up the possibility of starting a theatre program at the camp which I would be the head of. He loved it and wanted to see more specifically what kind of ideas I would have and how I would execute it.

That brings me to these past two weeks where I've been preparing stuff and finding sources of information so I can come up with a program from scratch. I've been in and out of meetings with different professors trying to pick their brains to see what kind of people I should look for when I go into the city and start looking up books. The plan was for me to come into the city Monday and have until Thursday to prepare everything. Then, the library was closed on Monday, and my meeting was moved up to Wednesday (Talk about a mini-heart attack!) It was okay though, because I got everything I needed on Tuesday and put together almost the entire presentation last night. Now I've got to just find a nice way to wrap it all up and give him a what a typical week might look like.

I'm definitely prepared to do this, but this guy is a real hard ass about stuff like this. While he likes me and is always impressed with the work I do, I don't know if he's quite ready to let me start a whole new program at the camp, to which I'll be in charge of. Worse case scenario he'll just go for a trial base period and only do half a program and see how well it picks up. If he then likes it, maybe he'll give me more power and flexibility with it next year. I just hope I can skip straight to the latter part of the scenario.

Regardless of what happens, I'm almost positive I'm going to catch him off guard with how prepared I am. Not to mention how damn good I look! I got a suit out for this occasion, and I even went to the barber shop and got my beard trimmed. Now all I've got to do is eat, shower, get dressed, and motor on down there.

Wish me Luck!
