Hi, I need to tell you all something. I suck at explaining myself. And? The only way I learned to do it is from debate class and rhetoric and oratory training. So...when I say something? I say it like I'm giving a speech. Or like...I'm fact-checking in the air. In other words, I say, "This is what I believe, based on this." At some point, ( Read more... )

This is a very nice compliment thank you. We have not ever met. You would remember me, because I would have flirted with someone as cute as you.:)

Yeah, I get that. Someone posted lately about...every time I mention dinner I have to worry about people who are sick and I just made them nauseous, because they complain. I am pretty thick-skinned. At least in the way that I don't take things personally at first. I have this belief that it is okay (if pretty ignorant) to say 'black/gay/other people are dumb', "into the air" if you will. Out loud. In the public speech. That is not a personal attack. To say to someone 'you're dumb, because you're X' is when it crosses the line from first amendment right to be ignorant and talk about it, to a personal attack.

The point being...I always try to evaluate communication that upsets me as 'would this complete random stranger say something intentionally to hurt me, with no motive?' That usually leads to...looking into why they said it or what they meant, or hopefully what we're miscommunicating about, rather than...attacking back and blowing any chance of resolution. At least that's the idea.

K.
