Grocery Store Encounters

Oct 24, 2011 21:22

There was this lady in the cake mixes and juice aisle, who was just standing there, nice overcoat and about 65. And then, I could tell when she caught me out of the corner of her eye. She said something to me, that I couldn't make out, something about hurrying. Her whole face lit up, like a little girl in love and she beamed at me.

And then her face crumbled. She said, "Oh, I thought you were my husband waiting for me." And she said something about him dying 3 something ago, months or years or days I couldn't make out. And she fled the aisle. All I can remember is how happy she was, when she thought I was him for a second, and that she was utterly crushed when she remembered.

It was sweet, and terrible. Life. *sighs*
