Today I realised I am well on the path to being a grown-up when, without even thinking about it, I turned a pot of yoghurt so that it was facing away from me when I opened it, so that it would not splatter down my front.
This is somewhat akin to the moment I realised I was a proper Londoner. I was on my way to meet some friends in a pub in TCR (and you can tell I was halfway there because I understood what they meant by TCR without them having to go tottenhamcourtroad in a bored way) and coming out of Charing Cross station I saw a big troupe of men in funny uniforms and pointy hats on horseback, riding in formation down the Strand. 'Well, that'll bugger up the buses good and proper' I thought, and went on my way for another ten minutes before going, 'Coo! Men on horseback in the middle of the city'.
What actions make you think of yourself as grown-up? What actions make you think of yourself as belonging to the place you live?
