This is My great Grandfather Frank Cox (we all called him Mate)
He is shown here standing on a Muddy Battle field During the first world war. For years we rhought it was taken on a beach, but when i scanned itin and was able to zoom in it showed the Mud on his boots and all around him, and the buildings in the background are Sheds and hospital tents.
He died when i was about 4, one of my only memories of him is him sitting in a chair in the back parlour wih his artificial leg leaning in the corner.
The photo was printed on a post card, dated 1917.
on the reverse in pencil is written To Dora (my great aunt) from your Darling dad. Written above that in pen in my great grand mothers hand writing it says. "I looks like you , but you look so sad".
