Well, this time, the creature was awake. Before he'd been dreaming, muttering names that were not of people Ansem knew. He strode a few feet away, standing before the man who was still sitting in the coffin.

"Do you, then, enjoy sleeping in other people's basements?" He asked, trying to get a feel for things. The man was singularly good looking, with long hair and bright red eyes. Though, perhaps not as close to heartless as Ansem would have liked. Appearances could be deceiving, and this dark man was looking for something.

…at least his heart was.

Curious, Ansem inclined his head and waited. The body was strong, the heart… he would see.

"I wasn't planning on it," Vincent said, dryly, as he sat up. "Unless your basement is a vacationing spot." The long length of his hair startled and confused him as they touched his cheeks, feathering in long layers upon his shoulders and around his face. His hair had been short when he'd died, but things had changed--the way his body felt was different, and when he moved, it felt...more fluid ( ... )

Ansem smiled at the dry humor. He bowed, not low or sweeping, simply in greeting. "I am Ansem, and this is my home. I must admit, that I was quite shocked to have found a coffin here." He smiled, at least he wasn't bored at the moment. "The moment you think you've become accustomed to a living space."

Motioning to the stairs, Ansem took a step to the side to allow Vincent a view of the basement. "Perhaps you would like to take a look around? I admit to being quite curious about a grown man appearing out of nowhere in my basement."

He focused on Vincent for a moment, trying to ascertain the status of Vincent's heart. "Perhaps you are … looking for something?"

Odd, Ansem didn't seem to be as surprised at Vincent's presence as he himself was towards being alive.

"Perhaps," Vincent didn't move, not wanting to turn his back on Ansem. "I don't quite know where I am. But if I had been given a choice I wouldn't have ended up in your basement, surely."

Vincent was aware of the fact that he himself was unarmed, and was highly suspicious of this situation. Where had Hojo put him? This basement, the entire aura of this room...was not the same. And he couldn't even place a finger upon why it was "not the same"...it just wasn't.

"You appear… confused." Ansem said with a smile. "Perhaps getting outside will help you a little? You could tell me what you recall?"

The influx of new people and creatures from other worlds was to be expected. Ansem knew that the new powers, the new hearts, and the epic changes that would ensue from such a union of worlds would make for whole new discoveries, powers and conquests.

The attractive man in his basement could be any of those things, perhaps all of them.

Vincent didn't answer for a few seconds, instead studying Ansem with a calculating, naturally paranoid eye. He wasn't one to ignore gut feelings, and this man set off all red flags. "Maybe you could tell me where I am."

He hardly needed to rely on anyone to give him the information in order for him to make some type of conclusion about what had happened and why he felt so out of place. And Ansem had jumped onto trying to help Vincent with an alarming quickness, as if it were an opportunity he was panting at, just waiting to take...and Vincent was not naive, and wouldn't just ignore it.

"You are in Hollow Bastion, or just outside of it. In my keep." Ansem offered. "What, are you doing here? Is more the question I would like to know. Where are you from?"

What made this creature's heart beat? That is what Ansem needed to know.

"I just came out of a coffin." Vincent decided to play dumb, considering that he had no idea where Hollow Bastion was. Certainly not anywhere on the Planet, which would explain why he felt so out of place. "And I don't know what I'm doing here. Perhaps you could tell me, considering that this is your basement, and I had to have gotten here somehow."

Ansem didn't smile as he wanted to. He enjoyed a challenge, and this man would obviously be one. "I'd like to know that as much as you would." He allowed his voice to trail off in the hopes that the man in the coffin would supply his name.

Something rumbled about the man… there was a dangerousness about him. Ansem enjoyed that, it would make him a powerful weapon. A strong heartless… depending on what his heart was holding onto.

He shrugged. "Why don't we go outside a while, perhaps something will trip your memory? As far as I know your coffin appeared a month or two ago, you've chosen this time to wake up, though I do not know why."

So that explained why Ansem wasn't surprised that he was alive. He had been here for a while.

"Vincent." Since Ansem hadn't supplied a last name, Vincent found no importance in telling him his entire name. Besides that, there were many Vincents--at least, he presumed so. "Do coffins appear in your basement on a regular basis?" He then walked past Ansem, and up the stairs, his boots tapping down upon the hard stone floor as he did so.

If Ansem wanted to attack him, he could. It wasn't as if Vincent would have a choice but to fight back, and he knew he wouldn't lose. Either way, it didn't matter to him. What mattered to him, however, was the fact that he didn't understand what all of this was about--why was he somewhere that he wasn't able to recognize? But he certainly wasn't going to allow Ansem to know that he didn't feel like he was even in the same world. The mere fact would leave him vulnerable and easy to manipulate. And he couldn't be sure that he was even in a different world--this man could be lying to him.

With Vincent's back to him, Ansem allowed himself a smile. This creature had a great disdain for others, and he was lost, one as attune as Ansem could tell immediately.

There were many different archetypes of people; Ansem's research had shown him. There were heroes - and this man was no hero, he may have wanted to be once, but now he was too jaded. There were Sorcerers and Sorceresses - Ansem fancied himself to be one. There were dictators, tricksters, fallen heroes, and then… seekers. This man… he could be a fallen knight.

But he was seeking… for something.

Ansem didn't have the fish hooked yet. "People and things turn up nearly daily from many worlds, to be honest with you, Vincent." He hid his smile with what appeared to be thought. "We've become accustomed to new arrivals."

"Is that so," Vincent responded, his tone one of disinterest.

Slipping up the stairs and into a lavishly decorated hallway, Vincent looked back down towards Ansem. "Perhaps you could show me around...?" The fact that he wasn't the first to appear here would explain why Ansem seemed so eager to help, as odd as the situation seemed. However, Vincent was never trusting of anyone, no matter who they were, no matter how helpful they presented themselves--unless they were Veld, of course.

But that was another issue entirely.

"If you do not mind waiting a few moments?" Ansem was going to go to his library to check for a few things before showing this strange man around.

He crossed his arms over his chest and considered for a while longer. "I've a few guest rooms open."

Motioning down the hallway, Ansem continued. "Any of the ones down to the left of the hall, I'll just have to close up some things. Perhaps you should think about anyone from your world? People tend to apear in pairs or groups these days."

With that he swept up the hall to his library. His heartless were cowering from the dark haired man, and this was... sublimely odd.

He'd see about trying to read the dark man. There was something powerful going on with him. Something completely inhuman.

It begged to be used.

As Vincent made his way down the hallway, he noticed that the shadows were withdrawing from him, as if it were ink spilling in reverse. Kneeling down to further inspect the shadows, he noticed yellow eyes and antennae, and blinked ( ... )

Ansem was perplexed that his heartless feared Vincent so much. Though the inhuman aspects of him were very strong, it didn't seem enough to warrant such fear. He tucked Hojo's notes into a locked drawer in his library and then slid out a volume on mental control.

Surmising that Vincent would be best controlled with drugs, Ansem frowned. He could purchase the components under the guise of showing Vincent around, though the cautious man may not be willing to eat anything given to him.

Then of course, there was the matter of creating a proper weapon from Vincent. Something that could move about on its own, but more intelligent than his regular heartless would be best. He wondered if he could simply make Vincent's heart freeze…

It would be nice to have a competent bodyguard when he went to have his talk with the prince of commerce, Rufus ShinRa.
