“Really, guys?”
Terra and Ventus looked up at her guiltily, and Aqua shook her head, biting back the smile that was trying to come to her lips. She continued with, “You can’t go anywhere without getting completely messy, can you?”
Slowly disengaging Ventus, Terra sat back on his heels, looking over himself and wincing sheepishly at all the mud and muck that caked his frame. “Hey, it’ll wash off.” He tilted his head. “Eventually.”
Ventus laughed slightly, and the smile on his face formed cracks in the mud that covered his cheeks. “We were just having fun…”
“Be as that may,” Aqua started, crossing her arms and shaking her head, “You really need to stop doing this! How in the world are you guys going to be taken seriously as Keyblade Masters if you keep wrestling in the dirt all the ti-Oof!” With a dizzying rush of air, she hit the ground, mud and dirt squelching under her hands as Aqua pushed herself into a sitting position to glare at her two friends.
Terra chortled loudly, releasing his hold on Aqua’s ankle. “You really don’t have much of a leg to stand on, Aqua! You’re filthy now too!”
“Yeah, come on, you’re not a Keyblade Master yet!” Ven chimed in, looking completely innocent as he too removed his hand.
Aqua let out a long-suffering sigh, but she failed at covering her laughter. She slid a little as she tried to stand and eventually managed to fend off her friends long enough to remain vertical. “Terra, I think Ven needs a bath. Badly. And right about now.”
“Yeah, I think so.” Terra also stood, smiling around the mud on his face.
Aqua watched as Ventus looked between the two of them and the easy grin slid off of his mouth. He started scrambling to get away. Launching herself at him, Aqua skidded around until she grabbed hold of his arms, hauling him out of the mud-pit. She pulled against his laughing, struggling form, trying to head towards the river.
“No-!! Aqua, no, lemme go, come on!”
She laughed, half breathless because Ventus was hard to hold onto! “Abso-lutely not! You’re not- ” She bodily picks him up and hauls him a few steps, “-getting away!”
A second later, her burden got much lighter. And much squirmier.
“TERRA!”
Terra’s deep laughter rang out as he picked up Ven’s feet. “Nope, little dude, time for a bath!” And they quickly hurried to the river and tossed Ventus in, laughing at his shrieking and sputtering.
Aqua grinned up at Terra when he rested a hand on her shoulder. And promptly shouted as cold water covered her body. Surfacing, she glared at the brunette, pushing her bangs out of her eyes.
“Terra.” Menacingly.
He just grinned shamelessly back, arms crossed. “Yeah, Aqua?”
“You. Are. SO dead.”
He shrugged. “You’ll have to catch me first.”
Spotting Ventus, who had climbed up out of the river and was now sneaking behind Terra, she smirked. “You sure?”
“What’s tha- WOAH!”
Aqua covered her eyes at the huge splash that Terra made, laughing again, her sides starting to hurt.
“CANNONBAAAAALLL!!” Ven yelled, launching himself at the two of them.

Eraqus tilted his head towards the window, a small smile crossing his face. They were young. It was good that they still laughed.
He was afraid that it would not last for long after they became Masters.
With a sigh, he turned back to his work. The Mark of Mastery exam was looming near.
