Challenge: [235] Duality
Title: Missing Pieces
Word Count: 486
Notes: This was rather fun to write in a way and I had it in mind as soon as the challenge was named, but I was distracted and finally got around to writing it. :P Allusions to BBS and 358/2, but nothing that hasn't been in officially released stuff.
There were times that Sora wasn't sure who he was.
It began when he woke up from his year-long sleep in the chamber; who had put him there, why he was put there, he wasn't sure. No one could explain. If he closed his eyes, he could almost remember seeing himself in the egg, watching and waiting and then … something. It always faded away with a tang of bittersweet pain.
He stepped lightly when he visited a world that he knew from before-but even that memory was fuzzy still. Why did he have the urge to skulk around corners, watching Aladdin and Jasmine, but not saying anything? Only a quick shove from Donald to 'get him to stop daydreaming' cleared his mind again.
Eating Sea-salt ice cream. Skateboarding along cobblestoned pathways. He had never done either before but he had and he wasn't surprised at all to jump and grind at high speeds. He just knew how to do it.
Why he felt drawn to Twilight Town and at the same time, wanted to run away from it? The sight of the tower and the steps and the hidden places. Talking to the kids there and bristling at the start of an accusation from the 'Discipline Committee.'
The sounds of conversation between three people, speculating on what had been and what could never be. Trying to understand.
Why he felt twisted inside when he saw the members of the Organization, why he felt more betrayed than the betrayal they talked about. They…they had done so much more, hadn't they? Helped to destroy worlds and bring darkness...It was the excuse he had to tell himself so that he wouldn't think that he was going crazy.
When he wandered through the graveyard in Halloween Town with an inane urge to chuck pumpkins at Lock, Shock and Barrel.
Why the sight of the hedges in Wonderland made him twitch and the World that Never Was was as familiar as Twilight Town and held as many bitter feelings.
When fighting the members of the Organization hurt so much. It was almost a struggle at first to fight, to lift his Keyblade when something inside yanked at him in protest. Something that struggled to understand and believe and want to trust again.
Why Axel's death made him hit the floor in overwhelming shock.
Why he thought of another red-headed boy with a loud laugh and a tendency to show off.
There were times when he wasn't sure what thought was his and what was left over from whatever-happened-before.
