Challenge: [220] Sunshine
Title: Open Your Heart
Word Count: 479
Notes: She liiiiives. *smack'd* Haha, this was written as part of a crazy self-assigned Valentine's Day week challenge last month, and is also sorta supposed to be a sequel to
Can We Keep Him?. Also, I have next to no idea if this fits the prompt well enough, so I don't mind changing it to a non-entry. {xD
Oh oh! Also, in my head, dogs tend to speak with weird proper nouns, so don't mind the weird captilization when Dug speaks at times. ♥
Let the sunshine in!

Aeris was watering the hydrangeas in Merlin’s windowsill when she heard Yuffie squeal “Nononononono!” Then there was the sound of what sounded like someone falling down the steps.
Her shoulders tensing immediately, Aeris dashed out of the room so quickly water sloshed over the rim of the green plastic watering jug and spilt onto the hardwood floor. Her boots stomped down the stairs and just as she reached the bottom, Cid and Merlin let out a shout.
The great wizard was holding a wiggling golden retriever away from climbing into his lap and his tea set was hopping to the far side of his table so the struggle wouldn’t give them any unnecessary cracks. “What is the name of Artemis’s bow is going on-?” he spluttered as the dog tracked muddy paw prints all over his blue robe.
Yuffie was attempting to haul the dog off by a bulky collar around his neck. “Bad, Dug, bad!”
“You fool idiot!” Cid shouted, dragging Yuffie by the back of her oversized pyjama shirt, thereby dislodging the dog, but sending the girl toppling back to the floor to land on her butt. “What d’ya think yer doin’?”
“Ah… Some… kid in town found him and his mom wouldn’t let him keep him,” Yuffie says, wrapping her legs around the retriever’s chest, even as he squirms again. “I… was just keeping him in my room last night. I was gonna ask you guys today, honest!”
“Yuffie,” Aeris begins gently, crouching down to drop her watering can, “it’s sweet of you to take him in, but he has a collar. He has to belong to someone.”
“I do not belong to anyone anymore, Pink Mistress,” a voice said. The three adults jumped.
“Did… Good heavens, did that dog just speak?” Merlin asked.
“Oh yes,” the dog replied. He seemed to puff out his chest to indicate the collar around his neck, where a red light bulb blinked on and off as its voice came out of a speaker. “My Master before I came to the place of Blue Cliffs made me this collar so that I may talk. The Great Ninja found me, and so, I Love her with all my heart.”
The dog stops and looks around at them all, floppy golden ears lifting slightly. After he’s looked at all three shocked Restoration Committee members, his jaw slacks open again in a toothy, lazy grin. “My name is Dug, and I will surely Love all of you, because you are Good People. I can tell, yes.”
“Can we keep him, please, please, please?” Yuffie asked, pouting and clasping her hands together and trying to force tears to her eyes. Maybe she should try pinching herself…
“No,” Cid said decidedly, arms akimbo and jaw clenched so tight he nearly snapped his toothpick. Aeris and Merlin looked ready to protest.
“But it’s a talking dog!”
