Sora forgot the dreams he had as a child; they were for kids, after all and years passing tended to mute and erase and replace those childish fantasies and imaginings. He didn't remember them until after he was home, after the worlds had settled down and he was safe again.
He remembered then, a promise he had made long ago.
Can I rest here?
That voice had reached him as he had reached out for the voice, he had accepted and enfolded the heart within his; so many years ago that the far-away heart became a part of his missing piece.
It had been so long ago that his memory hadn't been jolted until he saw that glimpse of Roxas, until he was in the space between mind and heart, the connecting platforms where he could always reach out.
It wasn't until he was there again, feet resting on an image of palm trees and water, clouds and sky and sand. He was face to face with his Nobody again, but this time he said a different name as he held out his hand. The one that reached out to him was part of a boy that held no empty smiles this time, but one that was pure and relaxed and a mirror of Sora's own.
"Ven."
It was the right name, even as Ven was no longer Ven, as Ven was Sora and Roxas all at the same time. He had always been a part of Sora, each the missing piece of what had made them truly themselves.
"Welcome home."
