Title: Letters to Home
Word Count: 417
Notes: I always thought that Sora would think of home and feel somewhat guilty at times. KH1
Dear Mom
Sora paused and stared at the paper, hand clenching around a pen. He had a lot of letters like this; half-started and never sent-- where would he send them to? It wasn't like he could post a letter to Destiny Islands; there wasn't a Destiny Islands to even drop by in the Gummi Ship. It was gone, swallowed by the darkness. He still wrote the letters, though. He imagined dropping handfuls of them in his mother's arms, all the words he couldn't say out loud to her, whispered fears and apologies and worries that were all bottled up inside and pushed to the darker corners so that he could fight to get his home back.
I'm sorry for running off during that storm.
He wished he could have gone out the door the normal way, taken his mother with him--he still hoped that the heartless hadn't gone to her first, prayed that she had gotten scattered to another world as he had. That she was safe in someone's house on a faraway world, writing letters to him.
I'm sorry I didn't rescue you.
It ate at him, the thought that she was gone, taken like so many people across the worlds. He had nightmares that the heartless crept into his house after he left, crawling over his bed and clothing, creeping like shadows across the wall while his mother still called for him.
I'm working hard to get rid of the Heartless. I have friends helping me, so don't worry. I'm also searching for Kairi's heart and Riku so that we can all come home together.I'm worried about Riku, but I know it will be okay
He didn't want to tell her that Kairi and Riku weren't with him; that Riku was working with the bad guys. He scratched out that part and sighed, running a hand through his hair. He would get everyone back--no matter what. He didn't want to worry his mother, even in a fake letter.
I can't wait to eat dinner with you again. Keep a place for me at the table. I promise I'll even eat the liver again if you make it.
The ink smeared as a tear splashed down his face and onto the paper and Sora rubbed at his eyes quickly so that the letter wouldn't get ruined.
I love you.
Sora
He hurriedly folded the letter up and stuffed it into an envelope, placing it carefully with the rest of the letters he would never send.
