Car Troubles
As some of you may remember, my car was having overheating problems for several months. I took it into my mechanic, and he did a lot of work and charged me $1100 for all of it. That was less than a month ago, and it's already started to get warm a couple times. I'm not happy.
Worse, on Sunday, it started making this awful grinding noise that alternated being a scratching noise. Then it became more constant. I did move-out on it (what choice did I have?) on Thursday, and it continued to get worse, added in an occasional soft, but high pitched squeal. On Friday, after graduation, the noises continued to get worse on our way to the restaurant in White Plains. Coming back to the Bronx, a squeak was added to the squeal (which got worse when I braked), and the grinding (which followed the pattern of my wheel) got louder and more consistent, and the scratching/scraping noises continued.
It's currently parked outside of my friend's house for the weekend. On Tuesday, I plan to have AAA tow it to the Subaru dealer (approximately 2.6 miles away) to have them take a look at it. Not only is it significantly closer to the dealer than to either of the mechanics I've used around here, at this point, I don't trust the one in Queens much - the guy missed a lot of problems, didn't fix the tire correctly, and hasn't been good at helping me to maintain the car (knowing that I'm a new owner and knowing my family, and knowing that I don't know much about cars and asked them to let me know what work I had to get done - and then the guy guilt tripped me about not maintaining the car correctly - did not make me happy, let me tell you!).
So, now I'm starting to think about new cars - well, new to me. I just got a hefty graduation gift from my mom, and the way my car sounds, I think it might be heading for a car purchase. So, my request to all of you:
If you know of someone selling their car,
If you know of a good dealer to buy from,
If you know of a good mechanic who will look at a car once I've found one I like,
If you know of anything that will help me find a good used car,
please let me know!
