Dressy (ish) clothing questions

When I posted my question about the suit in the fall formal post, I realized many of y'all actually understand men's fashion (something I'm trying to work on)! So I'm gonna ask a couple more questions I've got about matching and levels of dressy-ness ( Read more... )

you can wear a sports jacket with other colored pants, though, yes? And it's still dressy-ish (not suit-level dressy, but dressier with say, a black jacket and gray pants than with khakis?).

my suit came as a set - I think I actually impressed someone last night by owning a real suit...

I need to go through my ties and decide which ones are real ties to really be worn and which ones belong in the "I went to a catholic boys high school and that's why I own this tie" category (though it's not true, there's a certain kind of tie that belongs in that category, I think, like some of my looney toons ties).

I do like the prep look. I've got two v-neck vests that mostly fit (and one that's really too large for me, so I left it home this year). One's a bright shade of blue and the other is a beige thing with green stripes...

As for sweaters, I've got four, though I'm convinced the two I like better are less dressy. There's a green one that's sorta a muted darker shade with a stripe through the sleeves and then there's a red one with black and white stripes across the chest (but like, in one band). Those two seem informal... And I've got two that fit less better - a gray one and a deep navy blue one that are basically solid colored (as far as I remember - those are also both at home, so I can't check).
