Brian Selznick, The Invention of Hugo Cabret
Scholastic (2007) ISBN: 0-439-81378-6
Score: 1

This is a juvenile novella (it claims to be 26,159 words long) about a boy living in the walls of the Paris train station in the 1930's (and the history of movies). The story itself isn't remarkable, except for having scenes told by wordless illustrations. What's really noticeable about this book is the amount of ink used (dark black and white illustrations on black backgrounds, the text pages have black margins, and blank pages are solid black) and the heavy paper used (this 530 page hardcover is exactly the same thickness as a 900 page paperback).
