Gay Marriage Comes to Maine

Good news out of Maine:

AUGUSTA, Maine - Gov. John Baldacci on Wednesday signed a gay marriage bill passed just hours before by the Maine Legislature.

Baldacci made his announcement within an hour of the Maine Senate giving its final approval to LD 1020. The Senate voted 21-13 in favor of the measure after a short debate.

So, how does this going in and out legislation work? If you're gay, you better jump and get married because you never know what the next governor and houses will say?

Only two states have legalized gay marriage via a legislative process: Vermont and now Maine. There have been no cases in which gay marriage was passed by legislative process and then banned by legislative process.
