Friday night, Aaron and I went over to a friend's house for dinner. Afterward we ate, we all drove to Movie Madness to pick up a movie.
Movie Madness is hands-down the BEST video rental store on the planet. And you don't need to take my word for it... the Hollywood, CA Chamber of Commerce agrees. It specializes in weird obscure movies that you can't find anywhere else. Tens of thousands of selections. Awesome sections that create a twisty maze of passages, all different, with movies stuffed into every corner. Tons of movie memorabilia everywhere, making it a museum in its own right. I can wander around in that place for hours. So how, you might ask, did we take advantage of this fabulous selection? We rented 28 Days Later, which you can probably find at any movie rental place anywhere. Full of imagination, we are not.
But neither Zach nor Alice had seen it, and both were interested, so we eschewed the obsure selections and watched zombies instead. This was probably the third time I've seen 28 Days Later, but it holds up well to repeated viewings. It was made on the cheap, so probably not the best demonstration of Z & A's HDTV, but it was creepy and thought provoking and full of awesome. I'm a sucker for post-apocalyptic stories in which civilization breaks down. (28 Weeks Later, is a whole different story. Danny Boyle did not direct it, and it relied on People Being Really Stupid as a plot device. Enough said.)
Afterwards, I was supposed to stop by a friend's party, but it was already 1:30am, and we were utterly exhausted, so I sent him a text message and went home for the night, feeling old.
