Note from
alycewilson: For this week's topic on Idol Minor (
therealljidol), KFP chose to do something from the point of view of his bedtime companion, Toby Monster, a very nice handknit monster who was my reward for placing in the Top 25 in a previous season of LJ Idol. I'm trying something different this week in the way we present it. First will be a link to KFP reading the comic. Then will be just the words by themselves, for ease of reading. Then will be each page, followed by descriptions of the words and texts in each block. You can click on the images to view them larger.
Text only:
Hi! My name is Toby. I am a monster, a friendly monster. There are lots of different kinds of monsters. There are Blurbs, which are weird, Bonks, which are very weird, and finally fluffs, my kind.
There are, of course, hundreds of other kinds too. Now, most people think that monsters live in scary caves, but monsters actually live in nice meadows. Most people think monsters eat brains and stuff like that, but they actually eat apples, fried fish, turkey, salad, mac 'n' cheese, and baked bean soup. Monsters also actually drink water, milk, blueberry juice, apple juice, grape juice and soda.
Finally, most people think monsters are scary, but they're actually really friendly! Hug!
The End!
Block one: "Hi! My name is Toby. I am a monster, a friendly monster." A purple and green striped monster with black horns and a friendly face stands in front of a blank television screen.
Block two: "There are lots of different kinds of monsters. There are..." The screen behind Toby lights up with a "click," showing a grid pattern of yellow, blue, red and green blocks.
Block three: "Blurbs, which are weird..." A one-eyed green monster with a round head and serious looking mouth on top of a stalk-like neck. This monster has a spiral antenna on top of its head and four red appendages that look a little like lobster claws and have a green triangle pattern on them. This alien is on a red and green striped background.
Block four: "Bonks, which are very weird..." A five-eyed blue monster with a blue body and green arms seems to be smiling. Atop its head are two appendages which resemble green snakes with red tongues, hissing at each other. This alien is on a blue and yellow striped background.
Block five: "And finally Fluffs, my kind." Toby is center screen now, on a green and red-striped background.
Block six: "There are, of course, hundreds of other kinds too." Toby has a big smile as he talks. The TV behind him dips to black again.
Block seven: "Now, most people think that monsters live..." As Toby talks, the screen behind him clicks to the next image, which shows a dark cave on the left side and a tree in a meadow on the right side.
Block eight: "... in scary caves." Close-up of the cave, which is so black inside nothing is visible except some squiggles that might be flying bats.
Block nine: "But monsters actually live in nice meadows." The sun shines on a meadow full of purple flowers and a big apple tree.
Block ten: "Most people think monsters eat brains and stuff like that." The screen behind Toby clicks and turns green.
Block eleven: "But they actually eat apples, fried fish, turkey, salad, mac 'n' cheese, and baked bean soup." Each food item has a small illustration above the word.
Block twelve: "Monsters also actually drink water, milk, blueberry juice, apple juice, grape juice and soda." Again, each drink has a small illustration above the word.
Block thirteen: "Finally, most people think monsters are scary..." The screen dips to black again as Toby speaks with a big smile on his face.
Block fourteen: "But they're actually really friendly! Hug!" Toby hugs the camera with a very friendly, happy face and widespread arms.
Block fifteen: "The End!" Toby raises his arms while a bunch of confetti flies in the air around him.
