So Behind The Curve.

So yes... it has been quite a while. I probably don't want to go digging, but I'm trying to recall the last time that I actually drew a complete picture for myself. Or coloured one. Or put it on-line.

I have some sketchysketches in one of my travel notebooks, but even those are very few and far between and little more than concepts. I've had a bit of a weird time of it between all the things I feel I should be doing, figuring out how to carve out a workspace, life-stuff going on, and what-not... but I had a minor revelation last week.

A while back I bought an Intuos 4 tablet (because my other one plugged into a serial port and that was right-out with new computers). I could not get the Intuos 4 to work properly with my Linux install. Due to my own stubbornness almost all my time at home is spent in Linux instead of Windows. I get enough of Windows during the day at work, and I just want something that takes me out of that environment completely.

Not to mention that most things I do are web-based, so it doesn't matter too much what system I'm running. I can misspell on your blog just as easily in any operating system I can get my hands on!

Anyhow, while cleaning up my office (we'll use that phrase rather loosely) I had two little revelations. The first was rediscovering my Wacom tablet. The second was realising how far behind I was by not trying out Krita. With an attempt to emulate more real-world media, plus the whole brush-pen motif this looked really intriguing to me. On a whim I plugged in my tablet and it was automatically detected by my system, complete with pressure sensitivity and little clicky-buttons along the side.

Thus begins my journey to plug in my headphones, watch some Krita tutorials and see if I can create some art again. It's pretty exciting... my work-flow had gotten so technical and cramped than it just wasn't fun to draw anymore. Krita makes it feel like I can just dive in straight from a sketch-up.

We shall see, but the future looks sketchy!
