Yesterday we decided to spend a rainy afternoon by going to see
Boyhood. For those not familiar with the title (it only seems to be playing in one theatre in Winnipeg from what I can tell), it's quite a remarkable piece.
The movie was shot by Richard Linklater with the same core set of actors over 12 years, starting when the main character's actor was only 6 years old. Through the almost 3 hours of film we watch all the actor grow older, tracing the lives of the characters until the main character goes to college.
If it wasn't for the two recognizable principal actors one might think that it was actually a documentary. It was touching, and amazing, and I don't think I have enough proper words to really describe it.
One thing is for certain, those with astute eyes will not have to worry about lack of consistency with setting up worlds to look like the right year, or the actors having prosthetics to make them look, or fuzzed out shots to make people look younger. It's all real, and it's not like something I've seen before.
