The roofers showed up with their material around 11am this morning and began work. They stripped and shingled both the porch and the rear door awning (I had completely forgotten it was shingled) and then cut out around 2pm. I expect that they didn't want to start work on the roof and leave it half-exposed overnight, and will tackle it bright and early tomorrow. The fellow I was dealing with figured that they would probably complete the work around 5pm on Friday.
After the basement renovation I think my brain still doesn't believe that some jobs can be completed so quickly.
I tried to get some good "before" photographs, but the worst parts of the roof were virtually impossible to photograph from the ground.
So far so good... and the new shingles look pretty nice. You know you're getting older when you get excited about 30-year chunks of tar.
