Heaven’s Sake II
Once more, the voice of the princess could be heard. Chirping birds came to her and everything seemed to be quiet. Her skirma started floating in the air, and her long hair, which today was adorned by light-blue pearls (courtesy of Pu Han), seemed to shine lightly with the sun rays.
- Thank you, Pu Han. - she remembered saying - I really appreciate your help.
- There’s no need to thank me, my lady. - stated the Linel - It is my duty and my pleasure. I feel most content to know Your Highness trusts me this much.
- We are friends, Pu Han. Please, call me by my name… I am…
- Don’t say it out loud! - he soon prevented her from saying it, he knew the consequences doing that could bring - I will, once we return to the Heaven.
- But…
- It is not safe… - he almost pleaded, always fearing for her wellbeing
- Ok.
She sighed heavily… How much of a bad charm saying a Royal’s name could be? But she knew there was no point on discussing the matter, for even the slightest possibility of her being harmed seemed to startle the Linels. They were the protectors of her Family and a bond stronger than mere duty was what made the Pu’s keep up with the difficult mission. They knew that it was demanding and risky, that they would only gain enemies… Yet, they stood by the Liang’s side and swore loyalty in a pact of blood.
- Then I’ll summon the Linels after I finish.
- I can always stay…
- Don’t worry, I’ll be just fine. Really. Go up there, we both know Pu Tai Ge needs some help with all those Generals of the Elements trying to make him go for an unnecessary battle. I wish this could be stopped. I mean, it’s Heaven, for Wang’s sake!
- I know… I know, my princess. - he replied - Don’t look so down, Queen Xi Fang is doing her best to settle things before they escalate. Your mother loves you and the Heaven.
- Yeah… She does.
- Please, if you feel you’re in trouble, don’t hesitate and summon me.
- I will. - I nodded
- Oh! And before I leave…
He started roaming inside his sleeve and then took out a beautifully carved wooden box. It was a rectangular hand-worked piece in pine.
- Soon will be your birthday, but I believe I will be on duty on the West.
- Oh my… - was all she brought herself to say when he opened the chest
- Please, receive this token.
- I… This is way too much… Han Ge… Really, it’s way too beautiful…
- No princess, it’s just fair. You’re much more beautiful. - he stopped and smiled - Would I rather help you put this on?
She nodded and watched him go after helping her putting on the pearled coiffure.
Suddenly, a tug on her leg woke her from my reverie.
- What is it? - she stopped, when a little rabbit came to her quite in a rush and fear obvious in his features
The innocent animal started explaining itself in a way no human would understand, but beings of the elements did. She soon was filled in with the warning.
- Troops are coming. - she said resigned after noticing that also the ground was trembling, announcing trouble - Then I better start-
BOOOOOOM!
A deafening explosion cut her voice, shut all the living creatures and lifted an enormous cloud of powder: not only dust, but gun-powder could be smelled in the now tainted air.
- We ought to sca…
BOOOOOM!!!
Before she could end her sentence, she felt her body being thrown by the wave of the explosion and falling hardly to the ground. The sounds of men fighting, canyons and screams of glory and pain filled the air. Such a paradox it was.
The lady lifted herself up with some effort, her head still hurting by the intense vibes and echoes of the battle that was taking place a few meters inside the forest, or was it the lake that was to her left from where the sounds came? She tried to walk, but she could easily feel her legs not responding and her vision being blurred.
BOOOOOOM!!!!!!
