I helped my dad lay a pergo-like floor once. The trick was to not start with the same size piece every time, so that the joins weren't all in a row, or even all in a row at every other board, if that makes any sense at all.

I listened to the interview, and it was very interesting. I'm not so sure that it's black and white - that parents have a ready-to-go meaning in life. I'm so many other things than just a parent, and I'm always struggling to define who I am and why I'm here. While the boys mean a lot to me, I'm always trying to figure out how to make my life matter.

I feel for her mother. It sounds as if her mother was chained to a particular life that she didn't choose and didn't really want. Her mother was probably not able to have any part of her self that wasn't "parent". For her, it was motherhood vs. everything else that she wanted. In the rest of the world, it's balancing motherhood with everything else, not against it. I don't think it's quite fair, either, to compare being an Irish Catholic mother of 9 to a storybook like Cheaper by the Dozen.

But yes, I found her quite interesting, and she did have some very interesting thoughts. I don't necessarily disagree with much of what she said, I just think that her experiences have given her a harsh differentiation between parenthood and non-parenthood.

And could I possibly say the word "interesting" more often?

Oy. At least I can blame work, and not the kids... :-D

Yeah, we have a cool chevron-y pattern on the floor now.

Lots of thoughts on the interview, more later.
