Last night I went and saw The Merry Wives of Windsor yesterday in this neat annual event called Shakespeare in the Park. It's completely free (although you are expected to make a donation) and many people bring picnics and such and sit on the grass in front of an outdoor stage. I really enjoyed hanging out with my friends because it's been a few weeks since I've seen this particular group of friends, but I must say I had a really hard time following the plot. I know- I'm very intelligent. But really, if I'm not intimately familiar with the plot of whatever Shakespeare play I'm watching or reading, I have no idea what they're talking about. And I'm unable to focus intently enough on the words being said to follow along properly. Shakespeare lingo truly requires a conscious effort to pay deep attention to the words to really understand them. You can't just sit there and let it flow in one ear and out the other, understanding it without even thinking about it. Which is a problem for me, because I don't have the attention span to follow it closely enough. Nonetheless, it was very enjoyable. Truth be told, I now know that I prefer Shakespeare with more drama than The Merry Wives, like the classics such as Romeo and Juliet, or Othello, or Caesar, but I was able to derive much enjoyment from the sexual innuendos and other awkward situations that occurred.
On another note, I noticed upon my entering the car (we always carpool) that my close friend Alice had gotten bangs. At first I was very thrown off, very startled, because for all the (four) years that I've known her for, her hair has always been the exact same. She has completely, (naturally) blonde hair that's very straight and flat. She never wears it up or does anything different with it. So it was definitely a small shock to see her with bangs. But my second reaction was one of... well, I don't really know how you'd say it. Basically, about a month ago I had been talking to a close acquaintance about getting bangs. I'm quite enamored of bangs. There are different styles and some people really just don't look good in bangs, but I was considering trying bangs. The trick of it is not looking like an idiot. Yes, yes it's very simple, but if you risk bangs and don't look good in them, there is no escaping it for YEARS. THEY WILL NOT GO AWAY. Anyway, my friend was sitting with us as I was (on more than one occasion) talking about this. But she didn't really say anything about it then. So now that I see her a month after those conversations and she has bangs... after years without any hairstyle change.... I still don't really know what to think. It just gives me this strange, eerie feeling.
So of course this wouldn't really be a post unless I talked about the weather. Because I am just that cool. So guess what? It's still not sunny!!! Yes, there were a few days there that were in fact sunny, but the majority of the time it hasn't been! What kind of a summer is this?! For about a week and a half, we were having storms every night! And not just normal thunderstorms, but thunderstorms that sounded like World War II with thunder like gunshots, and rain that sounds like hail, and wind that's... really... tornado-like... (aren't I great with imagery?) So yeah, still hot without the sunshine to make it all worth while. Whoopdie-doo.
(And why am I anxious? Just a bunch of stuff I left out of this post. I felt it was getting to be a little long. Plus I do have things to do, y'know. ...even if I'm not going to do them just yet...)
