That awkward moment when a stranger writes you an essay in your LJ comments... pepperam July 25 2011, 05:40:57 UTC
Oh no! Don't be discouraged by these nutters! I'm normally a bit militantly H/G myself, but when it's for the plot or background of the story and it's as well written as this (or any of your fics) it's absurd to get pissy about it. Besides which, like you said, it was 6 months in school.

I mean, I look back on my boyfriends in school and I'm like good lord those were weird matches, but I empathize with Harry in this because--having been perpetually single since then-- I've also sometimes felt like I should have hung onto one of them like... I don't even know what. Something that hangs on with a vengeance. You know, when I'm feeling particularly desperate and pathetic and am mostly joking about it anyway. (And now I'm reminded of the fact that I am currently living in the same apartment complex as one of my exes and the time I got caught with him on the bus a couple of months ago which is completely irrelevant on top of being completely awkward so you are welcome for this lovely interlude of TMI from a total stranger)

THE POINT that I mean to make is that I think this story is excellent and people on the internet, by in large, are raging idiots so don't let them bother you. I really do hope you continue the story. I've been checking puffysub every few weeks hoping for an update despite the fact that I've subscribed to their feed so that action is really quite pointless.

Even if it only gets as far as LJ, it's something, isn't it? I'd gladly promote it on my LJ except I am about 99% certain that I am the only person ever to read anything I've posted (and I really don't blame anyone for that, do you see how much I ramble?). I don't know about other sites much. Checkmated, HarryPotterFanfiction.com, Simply Undeniable, The Unknowable Room, The Quidditch Pitch, and FictionAlley are the places I can think of besides what's already been mentioned but I don't know anything about their posting policies or which ones are even still taking stories or what kind of traffic they get, etc.

It's annoying to me that people comment on this (the H/L bit) at all really. Alright, you don't like it. Either get over it and keep reading or stop reading and move on... no one is forcing you here. It's not a productive comment. It's not even like they're making an argument that even within your AU this pairing is ooc or somehow else out of sync. No, it's just not their cup of tea. And yet people complain all the time about other people criticizing things in a constructive way while this useless whining is totally acceptable? (My art student is showing, I'm sorry, unconstructive crit being passed off as some kind of valuable insight really annoys the heck out of me as I am all too familiar with this, myself.)

Anyway, I hope your Muse gets properly revived and the story isn't, as you wrote, dead in the water, because I for one would really love to see more. Best of luck, I'm done hogging your wall now :D

This has nothing to do with anything, really (other than, you know, my quest to totally spam Kezza's post with comments *waves at her*), but...do you mind if I friend you? 'Cuz we're sorta strangers, but I wrote for you, and so you're not really a stranger anymore, you know? (If not, not hard feelings, I promise).

That's my issue with it - it's not a productive comment. A productive comment I would appreciate - "You know it's so woefully ridiculous the Harry went out with Daphne Greengrass in sixth year - you need to explain that more or make the girlfriend a believable one."

Constructive.

"I hate Harry/Daphne as a ship because it's H/G all the way! You betrayed me!"

Not constructive ...

Here's hoping the muse revisits ...
