Caprica 1.7: Ghosts in the Machine

Daniel Graystone with an idea is like a dog with a bone. He’s a heat-seeking missile. He takes no prisoners; he’s got a scorched-Earth policy. There is only one force in the universe that can stand in his way: a petulant teenaged girl.

Joseph is back in the NC with Boots. She gives him “amp,” a drug used inside the game to heighten senses and reflexes. It’s what my son would call a cheat code. She also gives him a gun and tells him that when he points it, he has to shoot it too. OMG, I wonder whether he will take her advice ( ... )

Serge! Tomas Vergis is at the house. Amanda greets him and he tells her that two of his employees were murdered and the MCP was stolen, along with the defense contract. She gets his drift.

Cut to Daniel’s lab. WHY IS THE DOG NAMED CAESAR? Whatever.

Man, I do find that Daniel Graystone has a resolute nature. Now he’s implying that he’s going to order the U87 to shoot the dog and he hopes Zoe won’t do it. Thereby he’ll know, and she’ll know he knows, and he’ll know she knows he knows..

The Foyer.
Amanda: “Are you trying to say that my husband stole your MCP and murdered those people?”
Vergis: “No. Not personally, no, he doesn’t have the courage for that.” Because he’s not like Taurans. Except for Joseph Adama; he could be like Joseph Adama. Amanda: “This is my husband that you’re talking about. If you knew him, you would know that this is not even remotely possible ( ... )

Remember my previous comments about Daniel Greystone? About how he made me nervous. Last night was an excellent illustration of why.

What kind of warped mind does that to someone you suspect is your daughter? The fire was bad enough, but Ceasar was disturbing. I don't care if there were blanks in the gun -- he didn't think Zoe knew that, and he was trying to make her do it anyway.

I will now shudder everytime Daniel comes on screen, because he is a crazy ass mad scientist at this point.

She says if they had been live rounds, she would have shot Daniel.

And I would have cheered!

I've got to say, that the only character I'm starting to feel something positive about is Zoe. Yes, she's a totally messed up teenager, but she does have a conscience, and that appears to be in short supply with too many other charcters.

Her robot body could tell that the bullets were blanks.

That is exactly when I started to like her. When I thought she shot Ceasar I was mortified, only to find out she only made that decision because she knew they were blanks. If there were live rounds in the gun, I don't think she could have done it. Because she loves her dog.*

*Obviously, threatening the life of a dog got to me. Says the woman whose two dogs are currently laying on various couches, and are each overweight from the overfeeding of dog treats.
