Onyx was world seven. A break from fighting Heartless, in the 100 Acre Wood fashion.
John lost his memory after leaving it, between worlds seven and eight. He also lost contact with Cortana.
Eighth world was 343 Guilty Spark the level; swampland.
Between 8 and 9 came John's first run-in and 'boss fight' with the Kelly Replica. This was a test to see just whether he did remember his friends, or whether she could take over the original's position.
World 9, the Library. Yeah, fun times. Very, very lost.
World 10, his current location...
He's just got back together with Cortana, who's found out a few things that none of his edited memory, the Organization, or Spark have told him.
