Damn it. No two ways about it.
He'd have to lose the coat. Find something else to fit in, to casual inspection at the least. At least he knew where he'd be able to find things exactly in his size. Clear his mind, visualise, target - he was in.
The sight of the place would have torn at his heart, he could tell. As it was, he looked around, detached. Interesting.

(Somewhere in the back of his mind, something resonated - wondering where he'd put that clean uniform, that one day...)

The thought occurred to him.
Try to change it? What would happen?
But - no. What had been had been. There was no future here for him to see.

He was improvising, now. He still passed all the scans that expected his Other's fingerprints, retinal images, DNA, still remembered access codes... enough to let him get around the complex sufficiently, as long as no-one started asking questions about where he'd been. He didn't remember that he ever had. Getting around? Portals as ever, he'd managed to acquire a cane from the medical centre (no doubt they were wondering where it'd gone)... and it looked like there was no time like the present to practice something else he'd been working on.

Concentrating, eyes closed for a moment, he lifted his weight from the ground. This would have to do.

Too close!
A figure strode down the corridor, with a companion floating by his side. Xefich ducked away, and watched, listening in on their conversation.

He hardly needed to listen to it, though.
He knew what they were saying - he'd been there himself, after all.

His Other stopped for a moment. "Did you hear something?" he asked.
Spark shook his head. "Nothing. This is not the time to let your imagination run away with you."

They moved on.
Far too close.
