Here's a thought experiment. Can anyone think of a bad guy in fiction (okay, gender-neutral, but it has to be a bad guy, not some nominal antagonist) who's genuinely in love? And not the tragic or unattainable love, either, because we're swimming in those. Genuine hopeful or successful (I mean reciprocated) love.
I can't think of anyone. Maybe Captain Hook would be capable, with his love of flowers and harpsichord music, but there weren't any women in Neverland and anyway, it was a kid's book.
