Post 5 things you like and 5 things you dislike about your hometown:
My Hometown: Fredericksburg, VA
Like:
• My family and friends and everything I knew growing up are there.
• I know my way around!! Sometimes I still get lost in Portland but when I visit home, I know right where everything is at and how to get there.
• They have 3 Chick-Fil-A Restaurants in Fredericksburg. Oregon? Zero. Boo.
• Everything has AC which is foreign to the Pacific Northwest.
• Proximity to DC, Richmond, Va Beach, and other major cities within a day's drive like Phila and NYC.
Dislike:
• Tourists in the summer seriously CHOKE the streets and stores for months. Does it help the economy of the city and state? Sure. But at what cost?
• Old-money blue blooded republican leadership that refuses to allow the city itself to grow beyond its history. I get preservation, I do. But holding on to every little thing is a bit much.
• The great Commonwealth of Virginia passed a law a few years ago that NULLIFIES rights of survivorship between same-sex couples even with the presence of a notarized will naming the partner as beneficiary. If the family of the deceased contests the will, they win. Period. That's blatant unconstitutional discrimination right there folks and it's still going on in Virginia. They should change the motto to "Virginia is for straight lovers"
• There is a developer there that owns practically EVERYTHING in town. His company is constantly building with the idea of expanding Fredericksburg to something great but they're not expanding roads - only more commerce with no structure in place to handle the ever-increasing population and traffic.
• It's not Oregon. The heat + humidity SUCKS when it's high. It really chokes you as soon as you step out of your house.
