2007 Top 10

Dec 18, 2007 08:28

I'm not sure I've actually listened to enough new music this year to pull this off, but I'm going to try:
(in no particular order)
1. Beirut -- The Flying Club Cup
2. Justice -- Cross
3. Of Montreal -- Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? (I have missed seeing these guys THREE TIMES this year. I even had a ticket one of those times).
4. New Pornographers -- Challengers (even though I haven't actually heard the whole thing)
5. Animal Collective -- Strawberry Jam (I heard one song off Panda Bear's new album too and it sounded pretty great)
6. Arcade Fire -- Neon Bible (have you seen that fan video of the spaghetti western re-edited to 'my body is a cage'? It's neat-o.)
7. Modest Mouse -- We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank (you can really tell that I haven't heard much new music this year because I didn't really like this album a whole bunch but I'm running out of material here. I did really like 'parting of the sensory' though.)
8. Ummm... don't Built to Spill have a new album out that's supposed to be pretty OK?
9. I'm pretty sure Radiohead's new album is kickass (even though I haven't heard it)
10. Lets pretend Man Man's new album came out already, it'd make this list if it was only half as awesome as their last two.
I do also like what I've heard of Hot Chip -- DJ Kicks and Spoon -- Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. But, again, I haven't heard a lot of either.

Albums that came out this year that I thought I'd really like but actually suck:
Devendra Banhart -- Smoky Rolls Down Thunder Mountain
Rilo Kiley -- Under the Blacklight
The White Stripes -- Icky Thump (except for three songs which suck a bit less)
