I've read and heard a lot of people say that they refuse to wear a helmet while cycling, "because wearing a helmet only gives a false sense of security." It bugs me every time, and more so when an otherwise very intelligent friend said it today. Sure, some people might cycle a bit more stupidly with a helmet than without because they feel invincible, but why would you think that if you're not an idiot? I was reading an article recently about cycling in the Netherlands and how helmets aren't worn because it's so bike-friendly - there are safe places to cycle, and cars respect bikes on the road. The UK isn't like that...
But then again, I refuse to wear a seatbelt because it would only give me a false sense of security and it would make me drive dangerously. Not wearing a seatbelt and therefore driving safely totally protects me from bad drivers hitting me, and from crashing because my car has a technical failure.

On a completely unrelated note, Planet Rock, which used to be "the UK's ONLY classic rock station" has gotten me listening to Avenged Sevenfold. I don't know how to feel about this - I can count the number of bands in my CD collection formed since I was born (1987) on one hand (err, if I had an extra finger on it). But the title track off the new album keeps getting played on the radio, and I like it. I'm listening to the whole album on Spotify and I think I might have to buy it.
Getting into 'modern'(ish) music is a very odd experience for me.
...I think I like it.
keep calm and rock on,
i want to ride my bicycle
