The moment that the tiny fingers grasped Millicent's forefinger, she'd fallen in love. Not the love that she had for Percy or even the love that she had for her best mates Blaise and Theo. This was a love she never thought that she would experience, that she didn't have the genetic capacity to feel. But she had been so very wrong.

Her heart flipped over in her chest as big eyes opened to look straight into her soul. "Welcome to the world, love." Millicent had felt a connection to the small life growing inside of her for nine months, but that paled in comparison to what she felt now.

Tears pricked at the back of her eyes, as she finally realized that the loss lay with her parents and not her. It was their loss that they couldn't love the small, pug-nosed baby girl they were given. Percy had been trying to convince her that she was not her parents.

She glanced up at the sound of the door opening to her room in St. Mungos and grinned at her husband. "I see you're all fixed from the hexes I sent your way. I would say I'm sorry, but at the time, I meant every one. Well, maybe not the one that gave you a tail." Millicent moved her body slightly, giving Percy room to lie beside her and Bianca on the bed. "Though I will rethink that last one, if you say I told you so." Her fingertips lightly traced the small tufts of reddish hair that was just barely there.

Percy knew better than to let Millicent see his smirk, so he ducked his head and nuzzled against his daughter's flailing fist. Normally, he wouldn't bother to hide it, but his self-preservation was on high alert. "Just the fact that you know I was right is enough for me." He raised his twinkling eyes toward Millicent's, kissing her softly before she could answer him. "We made a beautiful little girl."
