maybe it's just because that was my first lesson, but i think that all clutches and five-speed cars should DIE. oh my goodness, that was the WORST driving lesson of my life. i felt like i was fifteen again, learning to drive for the first time. i couldn't even stop w/o making the car scream at me. stalled about ten times, even on 28th street at a light. . .oi. how embarassing. and i knew my dad didn't want to be there. usually this would make for some quality "father-daughter" time, but no. first of all, before we even got outside he told me to wait ten minutes cuz a golf tournament was just finishing on tv (i mean, i wouldn't want to miss that, either! so exhilarating. ten minutes makes such a difference in golf!), then he was yelling at me every ten seconds in the car, whether it was "clutch! clutch!" or "downshift!" or "BRAKE!!!!"
damn you five-speed cars!! anywho, so today i got so much done. . .well, it doesn't seem like it when i say i mowed the lawn and chipped lots of cement, but three frickin hours of non-stop hard labor is a lot for jackie. oh, wait. i didn't tell you about this exciting job my parents gave me to earn college money. see, we have this flagstone walkway outlining a part of our front lawn which then cuts through it, leading from our "basketball court" (now my parking spot) to our front door. in between the pieces of flagstone is cement, obviously. every few years or so my parents have me chisel out the cement so that we can replace it. usually i only do about a few square feet, seeing as how i was so small and had nothing to do, but now they're having me do about fifty square feet of it (flagstone included), ten dollars an hour. so far i've put in about four hours and i have maybe twenty or less square feet done. pretty good, if you ask me. but if you didn't catch the sarcasm earlier when i said it was an "exciting job" then you've got a lot to learn about me. at least i have my iPod to keep me entertained.
