I get what you're saying. I'm not sure that being picked on helped make me the way I am, since I didn't really learn to stand up to bullies so much as they stopped caring about me. The time they stopped caring is right about the time I decided they could go to Hell, but I'm not sure what would have happened if they had persisted.

Thankfully for me, when I started high school I went from being a shy, quiet insecure dork to a hot chick who had guys asking for her number all the time. It was a like a switch being flipped, really. Middle school = dork who was picked on. First day of high school (hell, even before then since I had band camp that summer...ok I was still a dork ;-) ) = guys I'd never met telling my friends they thought I was hot could they get my number?

Funny thing was, after that, I got a big head and started being an uppity bitch until I moved to Georgia, and realized how awful I'd been to some of my friends who I considered still "not cool enough". It's one reason I have a hard time being petty-snarky IC is because I'm oversensitive to it now.
