Mashed Potatoes

Why do mashed potatoes take so long to heat up in the microwave? They're still cool to the touch when everything else on the plate is hot enough to burn when you touch it.

The simple answer is that they don't absorb as many microwaves.

You need to stir them, turn the plate, and heat again every minute or so.
