I watched
Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight, and I must say that I was expecting far worse.
The animation was something you'd expect from 10 years ago, both the hand-drawn and CGI, but it's oddly fitting considering this is based on books that were already classics 10 years ago.
The conversion from 400 page book to 90 minute movie didn't go very well. Enough of the main plot was left in for you to follow the story, but a lot was left on the cutting room floor (so to speak) to make it fit. I think it would have been much better as a 120 minute movie with better pacing.
The voice acting was... acceptable. Nothing spectacular, really, but it wasn't bad. I liked Kiefer Sutherland as Raistlin, but even that just wasn't quite there.
I think one of the biggest story aspects they dropped was Raistlin's greed/lust for, and headiness with, power. Oh they allude to it often enough, but you don't actually see it.
In the end, though, it was nostalgic and enjoyable, and therefore I give it 6/10 - A movie that's worth watching if it's your bag, but if you skip it you won't be missing out.
While I enjoyed it, I doubt this direct-to-DVD release will make enough money to earn us a version of Dragons of Winter Night, or to get any new readers interested in this classic trilogy.
