(no subject)

Aaah, so much for thought that online discussions prevent arguments from breaking out. Like a "real" conversation, people can still take things out of context and use them to their benefit -- even though a statement is written in plain black and white.

I noticed on two occasions today where this happened. And in between one person (person B) commenting on another person (Person A), others jumped in and reflected on Person Bs comments -- which were misquoted and misdirected in the beginning. Unlike the utopic idealistic world in my head, things were just as heated and dramatic as if they had been in a real world discussion. And people still were not "listening" to others.

So where does it all come together? How can the online discourse become a place for people to coexist without bitterness? In one of the two communities, individual names are to be used -- not traditional usernames. Even so, like in a city meeting, anger ensued and drama evolved. It just makes me realize that more and more that the online world is not too different than real life.
